Terms of Service
Effective September 17, 2026 · Version 2026-09-17.1
You can print or save this page for your records. Accepting these terms does not authorize a subscription payment.
1. Using Underhood
Underhood ("we", "us") provides a recordkeeping service for vehicle and RV maintenance, repairs, fuel purchases, reminders, receipts, and running-cost reports. These Terms of Service govern your use of myunderhood.com and the Underhood app. By selecting the agreement checkbox and completing account setup, you agree to these terms. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement to create an account. Every household member uses their own account and accepts these terms.
2. Your account and shared garages
Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and use your own login. You are responsible for activity you authorize. Do not use another person’s account without permission. A Family garage owner can invite and remove members. Members can view and edit that garage’s records and download documents. Only invite people you trust. Removing access does not remove copies they already downloaded. Connecting login methods requires verification; matching emails alone does not combine garages.
3. Plans, prices, and early access
Early access is free while payments are paused. Creating an account or selecting a plan does not authorize a charge or enroll you in a paid subscription. Individual is $5 per month for one user and two vehicles, including RVs. Family is $10 per month for unlimited vehicles and up to six users total, including the owner. All current and future Underhood app features are included in both plans. Our commitment is to keep those monthly plan prices unchanged for the lifetime of the service. “Lifetime” describes the monthly price commitment, not a one-time purchase or a promise that the service will operate forever. If you switch plans, the selected plan’s price applies. Any required taxes will be disclosed before payment. If paid subscriptions become available, recurring charges, cancellation, and refund terms will be shown at checkout and require separate authorization before billing starts.
4. 30-day free trial
Once live subscriptions are available, eligible accounts receive one 30-day free trial beginning on their first authenticated app or account visit after accepting the current terms. Existing early-access users also receive the full 30 days on their first such visit after launch. No card is required. Both Individual and Family include all app features during the trial, within the selected plan’s vehicle and user limits. You may change your trial plan without restarting or extending the original end date. Current or previous live subscribers are not eligible for another welcome trial. Complimentary accounts keep their existing access instead. Trial dates appear in your account. Checkout opens after the trial ends, and subscribing requires a separate payment authorization. We do not charge automatically at the end of a free trial. Without a subscription, new entries and edits pause, while saved records, receipts, reports, and exports remain available. Family members follow the shared garage owner’s access; their personal garages remain separate. If live subscriptions are unavailable, new-entry access continues.
5. Complimentary access and conversion trials
Underhood may grant complimentary Individual or Family access to a garage. The selected plan’s vehicle and user limits still apply. Invitations are tied to the invited email, expire after 30 days, and may be replaced or withdrawn before acceptance. Accepted complimentary access has no scheduled expiration. If Underhood converts that access toward a paid subscription, the garage receives a full 30-day trial starting when the conversion is made, while live subscriptions are available. The trial dates appear in the app. All features remain available through the trial; checkout opens when it ends. You choose whether to subscribe and must separately authorize payment. Without a subscription after the trial, new entries and edits pause while saved records, downloads, and exports remain available. If subscriptions are unavailable, new-entry access continues. Complimentary access or a trial does not authorize any charge. Abuse and security suspensions described in these terms can still apply.
6. Records, reminders, and maintenance guidance
Underhood is an organizational tool, not a mechanic, inspection service, manufacturer, warranty provider, or emergency service. Check service suggestions, scanned text, vehicle identification, and imported intervals against the correct vehicle, RV, chassis, and component manuals. You remain responsible for maintenance, safe operation, recalls, warning lights, and obtaining qualified repair advice. Reminders depend on the dates and readings you enter and may be incomplete or delayed. Do not rely on Underhood as your only reminder system. Recording a warranty does not establish coverage, and a report does not certify condition, complete history, or warranty compliance.
7. Costs and budgets
Cost reports reflect entries you record and may exclude missing transactions. Budget estimates are based on historical recorded costs, not a guarantee of future spending. Running costs exclude insurance, registration, purchase price, financing, and depreciation. Review date ranges, incomplete periods, and mileage coverage before relying on an average. Fuel economy depends on complete and accurate fuel and odometer records.
8. Your content and privacy
You retain your rights in the records and documents you upload. You grant Underhood permission to store, process, back up, display, and export that content as needed to provide and maintain the service and the sharing you authorize. Upload only content you own or have permission to use. Avoid unnecessary sensitive information in receipts or notes. Our Privacy & your data page explains account information, hosting, uploads, usage measurements, terms acceptance records, and administrative access. Access-controlled storage is not end-to-end encryption. Keep independent copies of records that matter to you.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use the service unlawfully, upload malicious material, impersonate another person, harass users, attempt to access someone else’s records, defeat account limits, or disrupt the service. Do not use automated requests to overload the service or extract other users’ information. Unlimited vehicles on Family refers to vehicle count for your household; it does not permit abusive use or unlimited bulk file hosting unrelated to those vehicles.
10. Availability, suspension, and termination
Features may change and outages may occur. We may suspend a user or garage, or terminate access, for misuse, security concerns, violations of these terms, legal requirements, or discontinuation of the service. A garage suspension affects all members’ access to that garage. A user suspension blocks that user’s app access. Suspension normally preserves records; permanent account deletion removes active garage data and uploads and cannot be undone. Where reasonably practicable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to export before terminating access or discontinuing the service, except when immediate action is needed for security, abuse, or legal reasons. You can submit an account request from the sign-in or Account flow to ask about access or data. Deleting an Underhood account does not delete your Google or ChatGPT account, or automatically cancel an external subscription.
11. Exports and retention
You can export available records and download original files using Reports and Account. Clearing your garage removes its active records and uploaded files. Deletion does not remove copies previously exported or downloaded by you or authorized members. Limited terms acceptance records, administrative audit records, and identifiers needed to prevent a deleted or revoked account from reopening may remain. Hosting-provider backups and operational logs follow their own retention periods. Keep original documents you may need for warranty, tax, legal, or resale purposes.
12. Service limitations and your rights
To the extent allowed by applicable law, the service is provided as available without a promise of uninterrupted operation, complete accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee that records will prevent a breakdown, reduce repair costs, or secure a warranty claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. Third-party sign-in, payment, calendar, and hosting services are subject to their own terms and availability.
13. Changes and questions
The version and effective date appear at the top of this page. Material changes will be presented for acceptance before continued use; we will not treat an old acceptance as agreement to a new version. Changes will not retroactively create charges. You can retain a copy using your browser’s Print or Save function. Use Help & account requests in Account, or the account request form shown when access is restricted, for questions about your account or these terms.
